Esomeprazole induces upper gastrointestinal tract transmucosal permeability increase

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like esomeprazole can cause a temporary upper gastrointestinal leak in new users. This PPI-induced leak in GI barrier function resolves after discontinuing the medication.
