Abstract:
Precision grinding equipment for the removal of very thin layers of hard materials containing slowly diffusing isotope tracers is described. The system is unique in the use of vacuum techniques to hold the sample in place and in the procedures used to insure maintenance of an optically flat sample with essentially parallel faces throughout the removal process.
