Summary

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) is elevated in anorexia nervosa (AN) patients, but not in other chronic undernutrition cases. Refeeding patients with AN normalized TNF-alpha levels, suggesting a link to weight restoration.

Background:

  • Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), a key cytokine, is implicated in weight loss associated with malignancies and chronic infections.
