Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the patterns of associated injuries and overall outcomes in patients with scapula fractures.
  • To identify common causes and fracture types in a trauma patient cohort.

  • Cross-sectional study analyzing trauma patient records from six general hospitals.
  • Included 41 patients diagnosed with scapular fractures over a one-year period.

Main Results:

  • Scapular fractures most commonly affected individuals aged 20-50 years (78%).
  • Road traffic accidents (RTAs) were the primary cause (73.2%), with pedestrians being vulnerable.
  • Body fractures (80%) were most common; limb fractures were the most frequent associated injury (43.9%).
  • Despite associated injuries, only 7.3% had severe injuries (ISS ≥ 16), with a 2.4% mortality rate.
  • Most patients (87.8%) received conservative treatment.

Conclusions:

  • Scapula fractures can be linked to more severe chest and clavicle injuries.
  • However, these fractures did not significantly increase injury severity scores, ICU admissions, or mortality rates.
