Abstract:
Molecular diagnostic testing is leaving its mark in many areas of medicine; no less in perinatal pathology. This CONTEXT article uses the finding of Gogia and Machin in this issue of Pediatric and Developmental Pathology that genetic or acquired thrombophilias are associated with fetal thrombotic vasculopathy, massive perivillous fibrin deposition, and maternal floor infarction as an example of how molecular testing is providing possible etiologies for entities that heretofore have largely been only morphologic diagnoses.
