Background:

Complex neurological disabilities present challenges for engagement in long-term care settings.
Meaningful activities are crucial for enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the impact of interactive drama on individuals with complex neurological disabilities.
To assess resident and staff responses to an interactive drama program in long-term care.

Main Methods:

Service evaluation utilizing interviews with 31 residents and 27 staff.
Observations of engagement for 74 residents participating in an Interactive Drama Project.
Data collection through questionnaires and direct observation.

Main Results:

81% of interviewed residents reported enhanced community spirit.
93% enjoyed rehearsals, with 90.5% experiencing 'flow' and 54.6% a sense of achievement.
55.7% of staff perceived a positive effect on staff-resident relationships; 64.4% of residents and 51.7% of staff learned something new about others.

Conclusions:

Interactive drama is a viable intervention for residents with complex neurological disabilities.
The program provided opportunities for enjoyment, achievement, challenge, and meaningful occupation.
Interactive drama positively influenced social dynamics and individual well-being within the care facility.
