Background:

  • Orthopedic management focuses on correcting and maintaining limb alignment, with guided growth (hemiepiphysiodesis) emerging as a key intervention.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effects of guided growth on pathological physes in children with rickets.
  • To assess the improvement in physeal appearance and width following guided growth interventions.
  • To determine the efficacy of guided growth in normalizing the mechanical axis and potentially avoiding osteotomies.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of 14 children with rickets treated with guided growth (hemiepiphysiodesis) using staples or 8-plates.

  • Guided growth may ameliorate secondary bony deformities, potentially deferring or avoiding the need for osteotomies.
