New quaternary ammonium lactate ionic liquids show potent antibacterial and antifungal activity, comparable to benzalkonium chloride. Didecyldimethylammonium (DDA) and benzalkonium (BA) lactates are effective against bacteria and fungi but not for wood preservation.
