Background:

Vaginal agenesis presents a significant challenge in female reproductive health.
Tissue expansion vaginoplasty offers a potential solution for vaginal reconstruction.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy and outcomes of tissue expansion vaginoplasty in patients with vaginal agenesis.
To identify potential complications and success rates associated with the procedure.

Main Methods:

Seventeen patients with vaginal agenesis underwent a two-stage tissue expansion vaginoplasty.
The procedure involved temporary implant placement for tissue expansion followed by surgical reconstruction.

Main Results:

The second stage was successful in 16 out of 17 women, resulting in a viable epithelial lining.
Satisfactory vaginal length was achieved in most patients, with no need for post-operative dilatation.
Complications included implant infection, superficial placement, wound issues, hair-related discharge, hematomas, and introital stenosis.

Conclusions:

Tissue expansion vaginoplasty is a viable, albeit two-stage, surgical option for vaginal agenesis.
While not technically complex, the procedure requires careful management to mitigate risks like infection and ensure optimal outcomes.
