Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive medical imaging technique based on a phenomenon of nuclear physics discovered in the 1930s, in which matter exposed to magnetic fields and radio waves was found to emit radio signals.   • To prospectively evaluate observer variation in detecting pathology on MRI for suspected acute scaphoid fractures.
  • To determine both inter-observer and intra-observer agreement for MRI interpretation of scaphoid fractures.

  • Prospective analysis of 79 MRI scans for inter-observer variation and 38 for intra-observer variation.
