Area of Science:

  • Orthopedics
  • Neurology
  • Anatomy

Background:

  • Piriformis syndrome is caused by sciatic nerve entrapment at the greater sciatic notch.
  • It presents with symptoms and signs related to this entrapment.

Observation:

  • A case of unusual low back pain radiating to the left lower extremity was reviewed.
  • The patient experienced tenderness in the left buttock.

Findings:

  • The patient was successfully treated by sectioning the piriformis tendon.
  • This indicates a potential surgical solution for piriformis syndrome.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the clinical features of piriformis syndrome.
  • Reviewing foreign literature aids in understanding and managing this condition.
