Muscles of the Shoulder01:23

Muscles of the Shoulder

The muscles surrounding the shoulder girdle, including the clavicle and scapula, primarily stabilize the scapula. This stable base allows other muscles to move the humerus effectively. Scapular movements often mirror those of the humerus and extend its range of motion. For instance, raising the arm above the head would not be feasible without simultaneous upward rotation of the scapula.

  • Consideration of patient needs for progressive exercise programs.
  • Main Results:

    • Current practices lack a systematic framework for equipment utilization.
    • A wide array of exercise equipment is accessible but often not optimally applied.
    • Therapists require enhanced knowledge of equipment to meet patient demands.

    Conclusions:

    • A systematic approach to weight-training equipment is essential for physical therapy.
    • Guidelines for equipment use in clinical and home settings are necessary.
    • Physical therapists must be proficient with diverse equipment to optimize patient outcomes.
