Laparoscopic live-donor nephrectomy (LDN) offers a less invasive alternative to open surgery for kidney donation. This case report details a successful retroperitoneoscopic LDN with no complications, highlighting its potential to increase kidney donation rates.

Background:

Live kidney donation is crucial for long-term transplant survival.
Traditional open donor nephrectomy causes significant surgical trauma.
Laparoscopic live-donor nephrectomy (LDN) presents a less invasive surgical alternative.

Observation:

This case report details a retroperitoneoscopic approach for LDN.
The surgical procedure lasted 210 minutes.
The kidney was implanted immediately after retrieval, with observed immediate function.

Findings:

No serious postoperative complications were observed in either the donor or the recipient.
The laparoscopic technique was successfully applied for live-donor nephrectomy.
Immediate graft function was achieved post-transplantation.

Implications:

Successful LDN can encourage collaboration between transplantologists and urologists.
This minimally invasive approach may positively impact kidney donation rates.
Further adoption of LDN could enhance the efficiency and outcomes of kidney transplantation.
