Background:

  • Cilofungin (LY 121019) is a lipopeptide antifungal agent with demonstrated in vitro and in vivo activity against Candida species.
  • Accurate prediction of antifungal susceptibility is crucial for effective treatment of yeast infections.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the utility of experimental 10- and 20-microgram cilofungin disks for predicting in vitro susceptibility.
  • To establish a correlation between disk diffusion test results and minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values for cilofungin.

Main Methods:

  • Fifty-two pathogenic yeast isolates, including Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, and Candida glabrata, were tested.
  • Agar dilution MIC tests and agar disk diffusion tests were performed using standardized culture conditions (yeast nitrogen base with asparagine and dextrose, 35°C, 24h incubation).
