Summary

Painful blue ears in a child were caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. These ear color changes resolved on their own without intervention.

  • Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a common respiratory pathogen.
  • Atypical presentations of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections can occur.

Observation:

  • An 8-year-old boy presented with bilateral painful blue ears.
  • The ear discoloration was attributed to Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection.

Findings:

  • The blue ear discoloration is a rare manifestation of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection.
  • The condition resolved spontaneously, indicating a self-limiting process.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the diverse clinical spectrum of Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
  • Awareness of this unusual symptom may aid in earlier diagnosis of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections.
