Abstract:
This case study is presented to describe and illustrate segmental instability, a mechanical disorder of the lumbar spine that may mimic a ruptured disc with nerve root entrapment. The differential diagnosis may be made through physical examination and roentgenographic assessment. Treatment includes a specific exercise program, weight reduction in obese patients, and possible use of a flexion brace. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 1982;4(1):3-5.
