Summary
Following hip replacement surgery, local inflammation markers like interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-8, and IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) significantly increased, exceeding systemic levels. Systemic IL-6 also rose, but local cytokine concentrations are not always reflected systemically.
