Summary

Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcus (PANDAS) links streptococcal infections to neuropsychiatric symptoms. A case study showed symptom resolution in a child after tonsillectomy, suggesting a potential treatment avenue.

Background:

PANDAS Syndrome, identified in 1998, involves autoimmune responses triggered by streptococcal infections.
It manifests as exacerbation of neuropsychiatric disorders in children following infections.

Observation:

Presents a case report of a 9-year-old child diagnosed with PANDAS Syndrome.
The child experienced significant neuropsychiatric symptoms linked to streptococcal tonsil infections.

Findings:

Following a tonsillectomy, the child reported no recurrence of PANDAS symptoms.
This suggests a potential resolution of the autoimmune trigger associated with tonsillar infections.

Implications:

Tonsillectomy may be a viable therapeutic option for select PANDAS Syndrome cases.
Further research is warranted to understand the PANDAS-streptococcal-tonsillectomy relationship.
