Summary

Cutaneous endometriosis, a rare condition, often presents as a painful mass, causing diagnostic delays. Early surgical excision is curative for this condition.

Background:

Cutaneous or subcutaneous endometriosis is a rare and often overlooked condition.
It can present as a palpable mass, frequently associated with chronic pain.

Observation:

A retrospective review of ten cases of cutaneous endometriosis over seven years was conducted.
The mean patient age was 36.3 years, with all presenting with cyclical abdominal pain.
A significant diagnostic and treatment delay was observed, averaging 31.7 months.

Findings:

Spontaneous onset occurred in 40% of cases, while the remainder had scar-associated endometriosis.
Spontaneous onset correlated with more severe underlying pelvic disease.
Complete surgical excision proved curative, though two patients required polypropylene mesh repair for large defects.

Surgical excision is an effective and curative treatment for cutaneous endometriosis.
Increased awareness can reduce diagnostic delays for this rare condition.
