Community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA) strains carrying SCCmec type IV were present in Brazilian hospitals earlier than previously thought. These strains show lower oxacillin resistance and may have gone undetected, highlighting the need for further research into their dissemination patterns.

- SCCmec type IV MRSA clones have been circulating in Brazil for at least seven years prior to the study, potentially evading detection.
- The presence of type IVc SCCmec in nosocomial settings suggests a broader epidemiological role than previously recognized.
- Further studies are needed to understand the dissemination patterns of SCCmec type IV MRSA.
