Restless Leg Syndrome and Night Terrors

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), also known as Willis-Ekbom disease, is a neurological disorder characterized by an uncontrollable urge to move the legs due to uncomfortable sensations.     • Only two trials involving 170 patients met the inclusion criteria; data could not be pooled due to clinical heterogeneity.
    • One trial showed no significant difference in overall symptom remission between acupuncture and medications.
    • A second trial indicated that dermal needle therapy combined with medications and massage improved leg sensations and RLS frequency compared to medications and massage alone, but not duration.

    Conclusions:

    • Current evidence is insufficient to establish acupuncture as an effective and safe treatment for Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS).
    • High-quality, large-scale randomized controlled trials are necessary to determine the true therapeutic value of acupuncture for RLS.
