Abstract:
Streptococcus oralis contains an enzyme that can remove a limited amount of choline residues when tested on purified cell walls. This activity has been identified as an esterase that exhibits some biochemical properties similar to those previously found for several lytic enzymes of S. pneumoniae and its bacteriophages.
