Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Pathology
  • Inflammatory Disorders

Background:

  • Malakoplakia is a rare granulomatous inflammatory condition.
  • It can present clinically mimicking prostate carcinoma.
  • This condition requires accurate diagnosis for appropriate management.

Observation:

  • A case study of a 70-year-old male patient with malakoplakia of the prostate is presented.
  • The patient had a long follow-up period.
  • Clinical presentation mimicked prostate cancer.

Findings:

  • Histologic examination is crucial for diagnosing malakoplakia of the prostate.
  • Microscopic findings differentiate it from prostate carcinoma.
  • Diagnosis allows for targeted treatment.

Implications:

  • Accurate histologic diagnosis is key for managing prostate malakoplakia.
  • Effective antibiotic treatment can be initiated post-diagnosis.
  • Understanding this rare condition improves patient outcomes and avoids misdiagnosis as cancer.
