Summary

Quantifying electroencephalogram (EEG) background activity during visual evoked potential (VEP) studies does not reliably distinguish migraine patients from controls. This EEG analysis lacked diagnostic value for identifying migraineurs between attacks.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if quantifying background EEG activity during VEPs is valuable for diagnosing migraine.
  • To assess differences in EEG background reactivity between migraineurs and controls.

  • Studied 8 unmedicated migraineurs between attacks and 10 age-matched controls.
  • Utilized three VEP paradigms: pattern-reversal (500 ms, 1500 ms) and non-reversing pattern.
  • Calculated power spectra of individual responses to analyze delta, theta, alpha, and beta frequency bands.
