Background:

Metal-on-metal hip resurfacing (MMHR) is an alternative to total hip replacement.

A patient experienced reactive synovitis, significant joint effusion, hip dislocation, peripheral edema, and groin pain after MMHR.
Histological examination of tissue samples showed a marked increase in lymphocytes.

The adverse reaction was characterized by intense lymphocytosis.
Surgical conversion to a conventional total hip replacement successfully alleviated all symptoms.
