Abstract:
The theoretical requirements for the quantitative photometric determination of trace amounts of metal ions by use of complex displacement reactions are discussed and a calculation method using conditional equilibrium constants and side-reaction functions defined and used by Ringbom is recommended. As an example, the requirements in the determination of erbium(III) by using copper(II)-EDTA complex and PAN indicator in ammonium lactate buffer solutions are calculated.
