Dual-wavelength beta-correction spectrophotometry for selective determination of Zr

Abstract:
beta-Correction spectrophotometry was used for determination of Zr based on its formed complex with Alizarin Red S (ARS). The reaction of Zr and ARS was developed in strongly acidic solution. The determination of trace amounts of Zr in various matrixes (river, tap and industrial wastewater) was investigated by beta-correction spectrophotometry using this reaction. The results showed that Beer's law was obeyed over the concentration range of 1-17 mug ml(-1) of Zr. The detection limit is 0.63 mug ml(-1)and the sensitivity; precision and accuracy of the method are all satisfactory.
