Background:

Nurses are vital in healthcare delivery and HIV prevention.
Limited data exists on nurses' human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) knowledge in India.
Effective HIV education for nurses is essential for public health initiatives.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the impact of a nurse-led train-the-trainer HIV education program.
To improve the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) knowledge of nurses in India.

Main Methods:

A train-the-trainer model was employed, with 10 senior nurses training 100 nurses.
A 2-day comprehensive curriculum covered HIV epidemiology, transmission, infection control, and psychosocial aspects.
Pre- and post-training assessments measured HIV knowledge using a structured questionnaire.

Main Results:

Significant improvements in both cognitive and transmission-related HIV knowledge were observed post-training.
Paired t-tests confirmed the statistical significance of the knowledge gains.

Conclusions:

The nurse-led train-the-trainer program effectively enhanced nurses' HIV knowledge.
This educational strategy holds promise for strengthening HIV prevention efforts in India.
Investing in nurse education is critical for improving health outcomes related to HIV/AIDS.
