Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Surgical Innovation
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery

Background:

  • Vesico-urethral anastomosis is a critical and technically demanding step in laparoscopic radical prostatectomy.
  • Existing methods present challenges for surgeons, potentially impacting patient outcomes.

Observation:

  • The study explores the use of the Capio device, originally designed for open surgery, in laparoscopic procedures.
  • The Alesix device, typically used in hand-assisted laparoscopy, is also integrated to aid the anastomosis process.

Findings:

  • Combining the Capio and Alesix devices offers a novel approach to simplify the vesico-urethral anastomosis.
  • This integrated device strategy aims to reduce the technical difficulty associated with this surgical step.
