Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the visuospatial skills and concentration abilities of Semantic Dementia patients in the context of jigsaw puzzle completion.
  • To determine if SD patients' performance on complex jigsaw puzzles differs from controls and patients with Non-Fluent Progressive Aphasia (PNFA).

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of SD patients completed a series of 7 experimental jigsaw puzzles of varying difficulty and types.
  • Puzzle completion speed and number of moves were recorded and compared to age-matched controls and PNFA patients.

Main Results:

  • SD patients demonstrated puzzle completion speeds comparable to controls and faster than PNFA patients.
  • The SD group outperformed PNFA and control groups on a scrambled photograph puzzle.
