Abstract:
This article provides a comparative analysis of two different inpatient systems: referral hospitals and health centres, with particular reference to the French experience. For having stayed unreformed for the past 50 years, the French hospital system is now facing a financial crisis, as well as a human resource crisis. By comparison, positive lessons can be drawn from the experience of health centres. Such observations can be useful for developing and emerging countries.
