Background:

Nursing is increasingly viewed from an international perspective, necessitating cross-cultural communication.
Videoconferencing offers a viable solution for international interaction when travel is not feasible for nurse educators and students.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore videoconferencing as a teaching method in nursing education.
To facilitate international dialogue between nursing students and educators from different countries.

Main Methods:

An exploratory international videoconferencing case-study project was conducted.
Two groups of registered nurse students (undergraduate and graduate) from the University of Scranton, USA, and University College Dublin, Ireland, participated in a joint videoconference class.

Main Results:

The case studies highlight the practical and pedagogical considerations for implementing videoconferencing in higher education.
Students engaged in discussions on common issues in nursing education and practice with international counterparts.

Conclusions:

Videoconferencing can effectively foster communication and enhance international awareness among nursing students.
Recommendations are made for the expanded use of videoconferencing to promote global understanding in nursing practice and healthcare.
