Summary

Multifocal wavefront-guided laser eye surgery effectively corrects hyperopia and improves near vision in presbyopic patients. This refractive surgery approach maintained good distance vision and contrast sensitivity without significant higher-order aberrations.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the clinical outcomes of multifocal wavefront-guided corneal ablation.
  • To assess the efficacy of a central near zone ablation pattern in hyperopic presbyopes.
  • To investigate changes in visual acuity, refractive error, and optical aberrations post-surgery.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 27 patients (54 eyes) who underwent multifocal corneal ablation with a central near zone.
  • Preoperative and postoperative measurements included uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) for distance and near, manifest refraction, and near addition power.
  • Objective measurements included spherical aberration, coma, total higher-order aberrations, and contrast sensitivity under photopic conditions.

Main Results:

  • 64.3% of patients achieved 0.8 or better binocular distance UCVA and 0.65 or better binocular near UCVA at 6 months.

Conclusions:
