Abstract:
This month has seen a public outcry against the use of atypical antipsychotic medication in the treatment of dementia patients in care homes. BBC Radio 4 conducted a survey of 355 GPs and found that more than half would prescribe the drugs respiridone and olanzapine for dementia patients, contrary to clinical guidance clearly advising against this practice.
