  • A Middle Eastern child was initially diagnosed with hepatic neuroblastoma at 8 months.
  • A 7 cm liver mass was surgically removed at 15 months.
  • Histopathological reclassification revealed a teratoid hepatoblastoma.

Findings:

  • The teratoid hepatoblastoma comprised fetal and embryonal hepatic tissue, undifferentiated elements, and a teratoid background.
  • The teratoid background contained osteoid, squamous, and mucinous epithelium within loose mesenchymal tissue.
  • The tumor's complex composition suggests a unique developmental origin.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of thorough histopathological evaluation for accurate diagnosis of rare liver tumors.
  • Understanding the histogenesis of teratoid hepatoblastoma may inform future diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
  • Further research is needed to explore the potential association between teratoid hepatoblastoma and chemotherapy.
