Summary

A partially ossified diffuse choroidal hemangioma caused serous retinal detachment due to choroidal neovascularization. Differential diagnosis from choroidal osteoma is crucial for this rare condition.

Background:

Diffuse choroidal hemangioma is a rare vascular tumor of the choroid.
Serous exudative retinal detachment can occur secondary to choroidal tumors.
Choroidal osteoma is a benign ossified lesion that can mimic other choroidal pathologies.

Observation:

A 53-year-old patient presented with a partially ossified diffuse choroidal hemangioma.
The hemangioma was associated with serous exudative retinal detachment.
Secondary choroidal neovascularization was identified as the cause of the detachment.

Findings:

Histopathological and imaging findings confirmed the diagnosis of diffuse choroidal hemangioma with partial ossification.
The presence of choroidal neovascularization explained the serous retinal detachment.
Differential diagnosis was essential to distinguish from choroidal osteoma, another ossified choroidal lesion.

Implications:

Accurate diagnosis of diffuse choroidal hemangioma is vital for appropriate management.
Understanding the association with choroidal neovascularization aids in treatment strategies.
Distinguishing from choroidal osteoma prevents misdiagnosis and ensures correct therapeutic approaches.
