Titanium-aluminum-niobium (Ti6Al7Nb) alloy frameworks for removable partial dentures (RPDs) are equivalent to cobalt-chromium (CoCr) alloys. This titanium alloy offers a viable alternative for patients with CoCr allergies.

  • Patient-reported outcomes (comfort, stability, retention) were assessed using visual analogue scales (VAS) at 1, 3, and 6 months.
  • Prosthetic complications and required maintenance were recorded.
  • A final evaluation occurred after 12 months, with patients retaining the Ti6Al7Nb RPD.
  • Main Results:

    • Dentists positively assessed all RPD design parameters for both materials.
    • Patients reported minimal, non-significant differences in comfort, stability, and retention between CoCr and Ti6Al7Nb RPDs.
    • No significant clinical differences in technical aspects or biological complications were observed between the two materials after six months.
    • Objective material assessments revealed no discernible differences between the alloys.

    Conclusions:

    • The Ti6Al7Nb alloy is clinically equivalent to CoCr alloy for removable partial denture frameworks.
