Chronic insomnia sufferers do not show a deficiency in sleep spindles, which are key to sleep protection. This study found similar numbers and densities of sleep spindles in individuals with insomnia compared to good sleepers.

- The sleep-protective function, as indicated by sleep spindle metrics, appears to be intact in this population compared to good sleepers.
