Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe the successful implantation of a transvenous ventricular demand pacemaker system in a cat with complete heart block.
  • To evaluate the efficacy of pacemaker implantation in resolving syncopal episodes associated with bradycardia.

Main Methods:

  • A 13-year-old domestic shorthaired cat with documented intermittent ventricular asystole and hyperthyroidism underwent implantation of a unipolar transvenous ventricular demand pacemaker (VVIM) system.
  • The pacemaker lead was inserted via the jugular vein, tunneled subcutaneously, and connected to a generator placed in an abdominal pocket.

Main Results:

  • The implanted pacemaker effectively managed the complete heart block and ventricular asystole.
  • No syncopal episodes recurred during an 18-month follow-up period post-implantation.

Conclusions:
