Radical Autoxidation01:20

Radical Autoxidation

The oxidation of an organic compound in the presence of air or oxygen is called autoxidation. For example, cumene reacts with oxygen to form hydroperoxide. Autoxidation involves initiation, propagation, and termination steps. Many organic compounds are susceptible to autoxidation—especially ethers in the presence of oxygen, which form hydroperoxides. Even though this reaction is slow, old ether bottles contain small amounts of peroxide, which leads to laboratory explosions during ether...

Summary

This study details the creation and testing of a new chewable tablet designed to help dogs with cognitive dysfunction syndrome. The multi-antioxidant formulation aims to improve the health and well-being of affected canine companions.

Area of Science:

  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Animal Health
  • Pharmacology

Background:

  • Canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS) is a neurodegenerative disorder affecting aging dogs.
  • Clinical signs of CDS include disorientation, altered social interactions, and house soiling.
  • Oxidative stress is implicated in the pathogenesis of CDS.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe the development, manufacture, and clinical evaluation of a novel multi-antioxidant formulation.
  • To assess the efficacy of a chewable tablet formulation for managing CDS in dogs.

Main Methods:

  • Development of a multi-antioxidant formulation with synergistic properties.
  • Manufacturing process for a palatable, chewable tablet suitable for canine administration.
  • Clinical evaluation protocol to assess the impact of the formulation on dogs with CDS signs.
