Putative endothelial progenitor cells are associated with flow-mediated dilation in refractory hypertensives

Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and homocysteine levels independently predict endothelium-dependent vasodilation (ED-VD) in patients with refractory hypertension (RH). Lower EPC counts correlate with reduced vasodilation, highlighting their role in vascular health.

- Circulating EPC levels are independently correlated with ED-VD in patients with refractory hypertension.
- Homocysteine is also identified as an independent predictor of reduced FMD in this patient group.
- Findings suggest EPCs play a crucial role in maintaining vascular function in RH.
