Venous malformations are vascular anomalies that do not regress spontaneously. This case study details successful treatment of a severe facial venous malformation using percutaneous sclerosis and surgical resection, significantly improving patient quality of life.

Background:

Observation:

  • A 21-year-old female presented with a severe facial disfigurement due to a large venous malformation.
  • The patient underwent a multidisciplinary treatment approach involving consultation, planning, and intervention.
  • The interdisciplinary team included specialists in radiology and plastic surgery.

Findings:

  • Two sessions of percutaneous sclerotherapy under general anesthesia were performed.
  • Sclerotherapy facilitated thrombosis of the venous malformation.
  • Subsequent extensive surgical resection of the thrombosed malformation was successfully achieved.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the efficacy of a combined percutaneous sclerotherapy and surgical resection approach for large facial venous malformations.
  • The multidisciplinary strategy ensured optimal planning and execution, leading to a favorable outcome.
  • Successful treatment resulted in a significant improvement in the patient's quality of life and facial aesthetics.
