Abstract:
Peer review is the process by which manuscripts submitted to medical journals are evaluated for scientific soundness and priority, and potentially improved in terms of clarity. Constructive interaction between editors, reviewers, and authors is critical for the effectiveness of the entire process. Although empirical evidence is still limited and is not completely conclusive, it is generally accepted that peer review is of the utmost importance for scientific progress.
