  • Growth hormone deficiency diagnosis was based on GH Research Society parameters, including plasma insulin-like growth factor (IGF) I concentrations.
  • Logical analysis of data framework was employed for data analysis.
  • Main Results:

    • A screening graph utilizing IGF I and growth rate (GR) effectively categorized patients.
    • Patients below the line (GR < or =-7.3 - 1.3xIGF (SDS)) were diagnosed with GHD.
    • Patients above the line (GR >-4.5 + 6.4/(IGF + 4.5) (SDS)) were generally not diagnosed with GHD; a 'gray area' required further evaluation, often including transient GHD.

    Conclusions:

    • Growth rate and IGF I serve as effective screening tools for GHD in short children.
    • Magnetic resonance imaging is recommended for detecting pituitary stalk interruption syndrome or tumors in specific cases.
    • The proposed screening method enhances diagnostic accuracy and potentially reduces the need for stimulation tests.
