Area of Science:

  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Hematology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Primary lymphoid neoplasms of the female genital tract are uncommon, representing approximately 2% of extranodal lymphomas in women.
  • While ovarian and cervical involvement are more frequent, primary endometrial lymphoma is exceptionally rare.

Observation:

  • A case report details an 89-year-old patient presenting with postmenopausal bleeding.
  • Hysteroscopic examination revealed an endometrial polypoid formation, with biopsy confirming diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Findings:

  • Histologic diagnosis confirmed primary diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the endometrium following surgical resection (total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy).
  • The patient did not receive adjuvant therapy and unfortunately died five months post-diagnosis.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the rarity of primary endometrial lymphoma, contributing to a limited understanding of its etiology, histology, treatment strategies, and overall prognosis.
  • Further case reports and research are crucial to improve diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for this rare gynecologic malignancy.
