Review of telegeriatric services (initiated 2005) primarily utilizing videoconferencing.

Assessment of cost-effectiveness, patient, and clinician acceptance.

Main Results:

Telepaediatric services using mobile robots proved cost-effective and were well-received by patients and clinicians.
Telegeriatric services were particularly beneficial for frail older patients in remote locations.
Both services demonstrated the potential of telemedicine in improving specialized care delivery.

Conclusions:

Telemedicine, exemplified by telepaediatrics and telegeriatrics, can significantly improve healthcare access for remote populations.
Successful mainstream adoption necessitates adequate funding and a strategic focus beyond equipment and connectivity.
Future telemedicine success hinges on comprehensive support and integration into healthcare systems.
