Summary

Erythrocyte aggregation in healthy individuals is not linked to ABO blood type. Instead, increased erythrocyte aggregation correlates with higher plasma lipids and fibrinogen levels.

Background:

Erythrocyte aggregation, influenced by surface charge and blood group antigens, is a factor in blood flow.
The relationship between ABO blood type and erythrocyte aggregation remains unclear.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the association between erythrocyte aggregation and ABO blood groups in healthy volunteers.
To explore the correlation of erythrocyte aggregation with plasma lipids and fibrinogen.

Main Methods:

Erythrocyte aggregation was measured using the Myrenne aggregometer in 114 healthy volunteers.
Blood groups, plasma lipids (total cholesterol, triglycerides), and fibrinogen levels were analyzed.

Main Results:

No significant differences in erythrocyte aggregation (EA0, EA1) were found between ABO blood group O and non-O individuals.
Erythrocyte aggregation showed significant positive correlations with plasma lipids and fibrinogen levels.
High erythrocyte aggregation (EA1 ≥ 8) was associated with elevated total cholesterol, triglycerides, and fibrinogen, but not with ABO blood groups.

Conclusions:

Erythrocyte aggregation is not associated with ABO blood groups in healthy individuals.
Plasma lipid levels and fibrinogen are significant determinants of erythrocyte aggregation.
