Abstract:
Around the country, millions of student athletes compete each year in interscholastic activities. There seems to be agreement among most Athletic Departments on the need for medical clearance for student participation. What is not clear is how that documentation gets reviewed, who is responsible for the paperwork, and how high standards in monitoring are achieved. New York State provides a model for excellence. And even then, the process is not without frustration and misunderstandings.
