Area of Science:

  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Ameloblastic fibro-odontosarcoma (AFOS) is an exceptionally rare odontogenic neoplasm.
  • This case represents the fifteenth reported instance of AFOS in English literature.

Observation:

  • A 12-year-old female presented with a 6-month history of mandibular swelling.
  • Initial biopsy suggested ameloblastic fibroma, with subsequent radiography indicating ameloblastic fibro-odontoma.
  • Computed tomography and stereolithography were utilized for surgical planning.

Findings:

  • Microscopic examination confirmed the diagnosis of ameloblastic fibro-odontosarcoma (AFOS).
  • The patient underwent hemimandibulectomy with a vascularized fibular flap reconstruction.
  • Post-operative follow-up of 23 months showed no evidence of recurrence or metastasis.
