Background:

Trigger finger, a condition causing hand pain and dysfunction, is often treated with corticosteroid injections.
Other treatments include surgery and splinting.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of corticosteroid injections for treating trigger finger in adults.
Key endpoints include treatment success, symptom frequency, finger function, and pain severity.

Main Methods:

A systematic review of randomized controlled trials was conducted.
Databases searched included CENTRAL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, AMED, and PEDro.
Two trials involving 63 participants were selected for analysis.

Main Results:

Corticosteroid injections with lidocaine demonstrated greater treatment success at four weeks compared to lidocaine alone (RR 3.15).
The number needed to treat was 3, indicating significant benefit.
No adverse events or side effects were reported in the included studies.

Conclusions:

Corticosteroid injections combined with lidocaine show short-term effectiveness for trigger finger.
Evidence quality is limited by small sample sizes and methodological weaknesses in the included trials.
Further high-quality research is needed to confirm these findings.
